Process for Inviting New J-1 Visitors: The hosting department and sponsor (direct supervisor) will need to complete the HR-2019 form and submit additional documents: The Visitor is only responsible for Part 5, sections A and B. They may either send you the information to be typed in or may fill it out themselves. Please reach out to the office of export controls at export@ou.edu if you have any questions for part 2, section B on page 5 of the HR-2019 Please note that if the J-1 visitor will not be employed during the J-1 program, please put “N/A” on “Title or Occupation in home country” on part 5, section A, page 7 I would strongly suggest that you read through Part 4, Sections A-I. These detail your monitoring requirements (i.e. any location/program changes must be approved by OIS first) Additional supporting documents: Visitor’s outside OU funding support evidence (minimum is USD 2,000 or equivalent, per month of program time) if any Visitor’s CV Visitor’s Invitation/Offer letter from the hosting department Copy/scan of visitor and dependent(s) passport ID page I will review the completed HR-2019 and the supporting documents for accuracy and then send them to Export Controls for review. If Export Controls approves the application, I will send the DS-2019 to the sponsoring department. You will then send the DS-2019 to the J-1 visitor who will use it to apply for their visa. Please let me know if you have any questions while you are filling out the HR-2019 and preparing the supporting documents. Thanks,

He bagged a first-class degree in chemistry from Yusuf Maitama Sule University (Formerly Northwest University) Kano State, Nigeria. His undergraduate research with Professor Ya’u Datti focuses on the study of the degradation of ascorbic acid found in citrus fruits. After graduating in March 2017, He proceeded on a mandatory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Nassarawa State, Northcentral Nigeria, and served for a complete year as an Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Chemistry, College of Education Akwanga, Nassarawa State. In October 2018, his alma mater offered him a position of Graduate Assistantship, until September 2019, when he secured a prestigious bilateral scholarship of Kano State Government /French Government. In July 2021, Muhammad Sani bagged a Master's in Organic Synthesis for Pharmaceutical and Agrochemical Industries with honors from the prestigious University of Grenoble Alpes under the supervision and guidance of Professor Yannick Vallee. During his masters in France, he worked on the project of prebiotic chemistry (the origin of life). In August 2021, he returned to Nigeria and assumed a new role as an Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Chemistry, Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano State. Muhammad Sani has attended various conferences and workshops in the field of science, technology and beyond.

In July 2023, Muhammad Sani started a new journey in a doctoral program at the University of Oklahoma, United States. He was a rotation student in the Feng Group and now works as a doctoral rotation student in Bayram Saparov's Group.

Jacob Solomon is from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in Chemistry, with a minor in biochemistry and a general honors award in 2021. He was working as an undergraduate researcher at Oklahoma State University under the supervision of Dr Gabriel Cook to create and refine methods to produce TEV protease, an enzyme that cleaves proteins at ENLYFQG sites between Glu and Gly. He also worked under Dr Jimmie Weaver to produce a novel dicot herbicide using a Meldrum's acid derivative with unique auxin mimic properties. Originally hired as an undergraduate intern and rehired after graduation, he shouldered a range of responsibilities at Weaver Labs, including overseeing the HPLC/MS system, preparing analytical standards, conducting kinetic adsorption and isotherm experiments using FTIR and UV/vis spectrometers, and meticulously following or devising synthesis plans using NMR, HPLC, and/or GCMS analyses. His projects included the creation and testing of organically modified sorbents known as Fluor Mops to specifically adsorb PFAS pollutants from ground and drinking water and the development of an optical PFAS detector at environmentally relevant concentrations.

Jacob obtained the Nicholas Fellowship and joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma as a Doctoral Student in 2023. He was a rotation student in the Feng Group and now works as a doctoral student in Robert Cichewicz's Group.

Fun Fact: Jacob enjoys scuba diving and has two cats.

Upasana Chatterjee is from Kolkata (known as the City of Joy) in India. She completed her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Calcutta, India in 2020. Following her interest in the field of synthetic organic chemistry, she carried out her graduate research project the synthesis of substituted xanthene by intramolecular Friedel Craft's Alkylation using ferric trichloride as a catalyst under the guidance of Dr Ashok Kumar Basak at Banaras Hindu University, India. Following that, she received her Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry. Driving by her interest in computational methods, she completed a summer project under the supervision of Dr Indira Ghosh at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, where she formulated the phylogenetic tree by using chemical reactions and applying different bioinformatic tools to produce the result.

Molecules have always fascinated Upasana, so she joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma as a Doctoral Student in 2023. She was a rotation student in the Feng Group and now works as a doctoral student in Indrajeet Sharma's Group.

Fun Fact: Upasana knows all of Taylor Swift's songs.
