Professor Jonathan Sessler from The University of Texas at Austin was invited by Yuanning Feng to give the distinguished Karcher Honorary Lecture for The University of Oklahoma.
Professor Jonathan Sessler is the Doherty-Welch Chair at The University of Texas at Austin. He is a pioneer in the fields of porphyrin chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and macrocyclic chemistry. Professor Sessler is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is also a member of the European Academy of Sciences, the US National Academy of Inventors, the US National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Professor Sessler was invited by Yuanning to give his Karcher Honorary Lecture at The University of Oklahoma. His presentation entitled Texas-Inspired Drug Discovery Efforts discussed the development of expanded porphyrins as a class of compounds and as potential drug leads. The presentation began with a personal story of a three-time cancer survivor and how with the assistance of great coworkers and collaborators an effort has been made to fight back against this disease by studying the chemistry and anti-cancer biology of gadolinium(III) texaphyrins.
It is a great pleasure for the Feng Group to host him for lunch and invite him to the group meeting. We had great discussions and enjoyed very much during his lecture.
